Evolution of John Proctor Essay

In one’s life, everybody encounters a circumstance that gets dramatically overemphasized. Things get wandered aimlessly off course and reality is by all accounts lost in everything. The goals may take a carefully measure of time and work to disentangle, however at long last, reality will be uncovered. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, John Proctor initially doesn't understand the gravity of the black magic preliminaries in Salem, as he finds what is in question he sees he has some everlasting clash, however at long last he finds a sense of contentment with himself. As the Salem black magic preliminaries had begun to rise, John Proctor didn't appear to be influenced by the circumstance. While he meets with Abigail, he has an inclination that she is misleading him he attempts to get over her by saying, â€Å"Abby, I may consider you delicately every now and then, yet I will remove my hand before I go after you again.† (Miller, 1359). John Proctor would not like to need to engage in something that didn't really include him. His first move appeared to be to attempt to deny her and remain away. Another circumstance is when Proctor is conversing with his better half, Elizabeth. Elizabeth cross examines him about the black magic preliminaries however Proctor denies that he has anything to do with them and to attempt to spare the young ladies. As John denies his relationship with the circumstance, he begins to delve himself more profound and more profound in his falsehoods. Without acknowledging it, he fires up a contention and that choice of lying sets up another playing field for additional falsehoods. At the point when Proctor attempts to move with the punches and simply follow along in the untruths, he begins to understand the circumstance is turning crazy and attempts to retaliate. As the preliminaries go on, Abigail chooses to attempt to get Elizabeth Proctor to turn into her freshest objective to outline. John Proctor makes a move lastly uncovers reality that the young ladies are on the whole cheats. However, as he is coming clean, the townspeople and the court jury are so up to speed in the girls’ lies that don't accept a word he says. John Proctor’s endeavor to attempt to cause the court to accept that he was coming clean he chooses to come clean and say that he â€Å"knows† Abigail by saying, â€Å"Abby, I may consider you delicately every once in a while, yet I will remove my hand before I go after you again†(Miller 1361). Delegate was edgy enough to scratch in his own notoriety to attempt to persuade the appointed authorities that he was not lying. Be that as it may, much to his dismay he just made another combat zone for contentions that are a lot for him to deal with. As Proctor attempts to manage his enthusiastic clash, he chooses to surrender. At the point when Proctor and his significant other examine what is to happen to all the upheaval they have experienced, Proctor discusses whether he ought to admit and state that he is blameworthy of black magic, or deny and ensure his name. Delegate had a feeling of cynicism and had an inclination things were not going to turn out in support of him. It was clear that he was at that point giving it up. After John had marked his agreement of being blameworthy, he tears it and admits erroneously to be hung. The weight has been lifted off his shoulders. He doesn't need to stress over his notoriety and all the dramatization that may have accompanied him on the off chance that he marked blameworthy. Through the enthusiastic rollercoaster and disturbance, John Proctor could at long last find a sense of contentment with himself. As the story goes to an end, John Proctor is feeling fulfilled. He went from being unmindful of the entire circumstance and by one way or another got brought into it. With his thoughtful nature he attempted to enable the young ladies to out by going about as though he didn't know about what was going on, however rather dove himself more profound into a gap he was unable to uncover himself from underneath. As he understands how troublesome of a spot he is in, he surrenders. Be that as it may, in spite of the fact that he surrenders, he had the option to bite the dust content with himself.

It likewise gives them a mental government assistance that is of an extraordinary significance in their turn of events and furthermore impacts the result of the nature as grown-ups. They are additionally ready to have an appropriate good example to manage them as they develop. Excellent and not many situations when exclusion from duty can be permitted There are uncommon situations where a parent can be excluded from cooperation in bringing up a youngster. The instances of serious psychological instability, maltreatment of the kid, disregard, or relinquishment, or long prison sentences could prompt a parent being cut off from his/her duty of bringing up the youngster (Goodpaster Kirby, 2006). Why is It So Hard to Write Your Law School Personal Statement

Why is the personal statement so hard to start? How do you put your heart and soul, and 20+ years of life, into a two-page double-spaced document? The personal statement is often a source of many starts and stops for the law school applicant. I imagine the writer, in a non-digital world, with a wastebasket of discarded drafts next to their desk. Now that I have dated myself, let me see if I can help you get started without any more stops. Your personal statement is a statement of purpose First, the personal statement should be two pages, double-spaced, and closely proofread. I know, it is hard to condense a life into that short a document. But the personal statement is not a memoir; it is a statement. A statement of purpose. And your purpose is to attend law school and pursue a legal education and career. Thus, if you are not given a directive to write about something specific, like what is your favorite color, the personal statement should answer the question, â€Å"Why do you want to go to law school?† The narrative should be clear and proofread as many times as possible, and then once more before submitting it. When working with applicants who are stuck and have yet to get through a draft of the personal statement, I begin with a conversation. The conversation is centered around getting to know the applicant and then, bam, I ask, â€Å"So why do you want to go to law school?† As simple as that. The applicant usually then articulates the reasons for putting themselves through the stress of the application process. â€Å"I have been working for a couple of years and enjoy the work that I do but realize that I am missing the knowledge and skills necessary to really affect change.† Or: â€Å"I come from a family of lawyers and have grown up knowing what I want to do.† Or: â€Å"I have seen firsthand the injustice in the world and want to give voice to the voiceless.† These are some common threads, but everyone has a â€Å"reason.† It may take a couple of follow-up questions to really tease out the answer, but your own narrative exists, and it really can fit in two pages! Your personal statement is NOT a resume I know that you have over two decades of life to share with the committee, but again, the personal statement is not a memoir nor a recitation of your resume. You should be submitting your resume separately so the committee will also get that information. Perhaps your personal statement will share insight into an aspect of your resume, but it should not read like, â€Å"Well sophomore year I interned at X law firm and it was great and that lead to another internship at Y Public Defender’s office but it wasn’t until I took that job as a paralegal at Z firm that I really knew what I wanted to do.† That is all great, but the committee saw all that on the resume so why not provide more insight into your experiences? Don’t waste valuable essay real estate. Dig deeper and go beyond the banal, superficial, obvious, or already known. What motivated you to try the first internship in the first place? How did one summer job lead to another? Why was the work at Z so transforming? Peel back the layers of your motivations and lessons learned to develop an insightful, engaging personal statement that combines anecdote with analysis. You have two pages to showcase your ability to convey a point: why you want to go to law school. Be clear and concise. That personal statement should also showcase your ability to write and proofread your work. Let your narrative shine, leaving the reader knowing that this applicant is confident in their decision to attend law school and has solid reasoning and writing ability. Now get started! How to Write a Medical School Personal Statement

How to Write a Medical School Personal StatementThe purpose of writing a medical school personal statement is to tell the admissions committee the person you are and how your best qualities combine to make you a good candidate for an upcoming career in medicine. There are many elements that go into the written personal statement that you should consider, so to ensure that your personal statement is as complete as possible, keep the following in mind:* By the time you've finished writing your personal statement, be sure to edit it as necessary. Take some time to bring your personal statement back to its original state and turn it into a draft that you'll have full access to.* Never give false information about your abilities, interests, or educational background. Be sure to ask your school for verification of your education and experience, and request a certified copy of your transcript from each institution that you attended. This information is essential when you write your personal statement, and if you do not provide it, you may face some consequences.* Know all of your rights. Some schools will require you to provide documentation of your educational background. This includes your high school grades, as well as any letters of recommendation. You should also know that most schools will allow you to add any additional supporting documents such as your college transcripts, recommendations, awards, personal statements, and other information relevant to your personality and academic achievements.* Never make up your own stories about your experiences. A medical school personal statement is meant to make a positive impression on the admissions committee, so ensure that you do not take credit for experiences that you did not have. Add as much information as you feel comfortable including, such as where you learned the most important lessons in life, what your favorite foods and hobbies are, or even whether you were a good student or just did well in school. There is no better way to go through the application process than with facts and interesting stories that make you a valuable candidate. * Never plagiarize: While there are a few people who make a career out of making up all kinds of stories and creating all kinds of factual evidence, most of these people are completely insane. If you feel the need to borrow a bit of content from another writer, ask the author for permission first, and then carefully edit it.Your personal statement is a document that you can keep as a record of your accomplishments in medical school. If you follow these tips, you'll be able to get through the medical school application process without any difficulty.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and the Movie...

â€Å"My purpose was, in a whimsical kind of masque which the good humour of the season justified, to awaken some loving and forbearing thoughts, never out of season in a Christian land† (Dickens Preface). Dickens wanted to convey a theme of the Christmas Spirit in A Christmas Carol and it shined through in Christmas Cupid. Ebenezer Scrooge represents the Victorian rich who treat those below them poorly and only care for their own well-being. He is a man who cares only for money because of the neglect he received, as boy from both is peers and father. Sloane Spencer, a Los Angeles publicist who wants the vice president position so badly that she dates her boss, who is also the head of the company’s son, is the representation of Scrooge in†¦show more content†¦Also she sees how she takes her best friend for granted and that her mother is going to be alone for Christmas. Sloane tries to fix her relationships, but it doesn’t seem like it does much help. Slone and Scrooge connect in this part because they’re starting to realize the consequences of their actions. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows up in two completely different ways. Scrooge’s Ghost is depicted as a â€Å"solemn Phantom, draped and hooded, coming, like a mist along the ground, towards him† (Dickens 71). Whereas Sloane’s shows up dressed as Santa Clause. Scrooge is shown the death of a man and how people are rejoicing it and he is shown the death of Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit’s crippled son. The Phantom shows Scrooge a tombstone with his name on it. The death of the man everyone was rejoicing was his. Scrooge realizes the consequences of his actions and learns that he must change his ways and does so. He makes sure he fixes his ways by sending a turkey to Cratchit’s house, donating a large sum to a man that had previously asked for one. He even gives Cratchit a raise the next day. Sloane realizes that she will end up completely alone if she doesn’t change her ways. She goes to her mother’s house and reconciles with and then t akes her to her friend Jenny’s for Christmas dinner. She then attends Caitlin’s movie premier/memorial and proceeds to fix things with Jenny by putting gift certificates to her restaurant in

Colonialism In Nigeria Essay Example For Students

Colonialism In Nigeria Essay The earliest known documentation of Nigeria is that it was the sight of a group of organized states called Hausa. The earliest Nigerians were the Nok people. These Noks were skilled artisans, but they didnt last long. The Noks had disappeared by the second millennium. The Southwest region of Lake Chad, Africa was ruled by the Kanem-Bornu during the 8th century. By the 1300s, the empire of Kanem-Bornu was a flourishing center of Islamic culture, rivaling Mali in the west. As this African kingdom began to stagnate, the western states fell under the rule of Songhai and the empire fell in result. During the 15th century, Nigeria was a very prosperous country with great cultivation and trading. By the late 16th century, the Kanem-Bornu broke up and the Hausa states regained their independence. In the 19th century, the Fulani then took dominance in the lands of Hausa and the southern part of the country was divided at this time. In the west, Yoruba had their own states; the Edo ruled in Be nin in the south-central parts; and the Ibo had control in the east, in and north of the Niger delta. People such as Mungo Park, Richard Lemon Lander, and John Lander first explored the interior in 1830-31. Realizing the potential of the area, the Portuguese, the British, and others established slave-trading stations in the Niger delta. The British sent consuls to Calabar and Lagos, where traders were established, and they took full possession of Lagos. The British then established protectorates after the conclusion of several treaties with the native chiefs and in 1893, the name Niger Coast Protectorate was established. Then, in 1900, after expansion in the southwest, which brought about the addition of the kingdom of Benin, the name was changed to the Protectorate of Southern Nigeria. In the same year, the British proclaimed the protectorate of Northern Nigeria as well. British didnt have full control over either of the two protectorates at the time of their establishments. However, France, Britain, and Germany had so-called spheres of influence and it was understood that Britain had control of Nigeria. British troops were engaged in conflicts with the people of Nigeria who were still involved in slave trade after it was prohibited by the British in 1807. In 1914, North and South Nigeria merged into the colony and protectorate of Nigeria with Sir Fredrick Lugard as the governor. However, for administrative purposes, the country was divided into the Colony of Lagos, Northern province, and Southern province. Lugard allowed the native chiefs and councils to rule over Nigeria while under the watch of the British government. During the time of World War II, the people of Nigeria demanded self-government and wrote multiple constitutions, none of which stuck. By succeeding constitutional changes, Nigeria was able to become a federation in 1954 and each region was given the option of claiming self-government. Self-government was first granted to the Eastern and Western regions in 1957 and then to the northern region in 1959. Nigeria was accepted as an independent state on October 1, 1960 by the UN and on October 7th by the Commonwealth of Nations. On February 11-12, 1961, the northern section voted to become part of Nigeria. At this time, Nigeria was divided into three separate states: the northern region, dominated by Hausa speakers; the Western Region, of the Yoruba; and the predominately Igbo Eastern Region. National conflicts were soon caused because of the national politics. There were constant treats of seceding from the federation by the politicians of each region. .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 , .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .postImageUrl , .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 , .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:hover , .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:visited , .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:active { border:0!important; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:active , .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2 .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u98e6982ec628dea995e307170d5c0bf2:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bi-Lingual Education EssayThirteen years of military rule ended in 1979. A new constitution was written completely free of any British involvement. They modeled their government off of the United States balance-of-powers system. Nigeria is a federation of 19 states and Federal Capital Territory. The people of Nigeria are ruled by a president who is elected for a period of 4 years at a time. Philosophy for American Journal of Transplantation- myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about thePhilosophy for American Journal of Transplantation. Answer: Huemer, M. (2018). Unjust Drug War. Owl232.net. Retrieved 12 April 2018, from https://www.owl232.net/papers/drugs.htm In the given essay by Michael Huemer, the controversial issue of drug war, where argument has been provided in favour of outlawing the drugs due to its negative effect both upon the user and other people of the society. The author has also mentioned that prohibition of drugs violate the human rights. The current study will help to justify the fact that have been given by the author about the uses of drugs. The philosophical and intellectual matter related to the drug war will also be discussed by providing cogent argument. Excessive use of drugs is one of the major social issues within the population of America. The total number of crime cases and anti-social activities increases with the popularity of drug usage among the younger generation (Jones et al., 2015). In the given assignment the author has effectively described the role of government in banning of drugs. The decision will be implemented in order to protect the interest of majority of the people, who are also indirectly affected by the negative effect of drugs. The author has provided statistical information by stating that nearly 18000 Americans are killed each year due to excessive usage of drugs. However, it is also important to note that more people are killed by the uses of tobacco, which can be calculated as 15 people per 1000 users, compared to that of drug that kills 2.6 people in 1000(Huemer, 2018). Hence, in this context I believe it is more important for the government to focus upon issues related to tobacco smoking and obesity. It is also important for the government to consider about the medicinal uses of drugs which includes marijuana, cocaine and heroin. The ethical issues in the given context is the most important challenge that needs to be considered before completely legalising the drugs. There are currently 450,000 people who are innocently captured by the government due to the drug abuse(Huemer, 2018). I do believe the author has provided strong argument against the government policies that has caused the uprising of the drug war. With the help of these strong facts and arguments, I think it will be possible to justify the movement which is against the government decision. Nevertheless, it is also important to consider the fact that there are several teenagers in the American society, who are getting habituated with the misuse of illegal drugs. Hence, according to me it is important for the government not to completely prohibit the drugs, but rather control the uses of the same (Rudd et al., 2016). In conclusion it can be said that there are still arguments among prohibitionist about the definition of fundamental rights that are related to usages of illegal drugs. One of the major drawbacks of writing is the fact that the author has not highlighted about the Medical Application of the drugs that could have been a major highlighting point against complete banishment of drugs. Hence, the write up has provided argument both in favour and against the usages of drugs. Reference Huemer, M. (2018). Unjust Drug War. Owl232.net. Token Boards for Reinforcing Behavior in Classroom

Token Boards for Reinforcing Behavior in Classroom Like any educational tool, a token board is most effective when used consistently within the context of a comprehensive classroom management plan. Token boards have been associated with Applied Behavior Analysis, as they provide a simple and visual method of structuring and providing reinforcement. They can be used to narrow or broaden your reinforcement schedule. They can be used to teach children how to defer gratification. They can be used narrowly to address specific behavior problems. At the same time, unless you and your staff or you and your collaborating teacher are clear about how a token is earned, you can end up with a lot of dysfunction. The purpose is to provide clarity about which behaviors, even academic, that you are reinforcing. If you get preoccupied and dont consistently award tokens, you also undermine your whole reinforcement plan. For these reasons, its important to address how you make and use a token board in your classroom. Basically, a token board has individual pictures or tokens that are held in place by Velcro. The tokens are stored on the back of the board until they are moved to the front of the board. Usually, the number of tokens is determined by how long you believe you can defer reinforcement. Many token boards (as the one depicted above) may include a place for the students choice of reinforcement represented by a picture.   Token Boards Used for Reinforcement Creating a clear sense of contingency is the first and primary purpose of a token board. Your student needs to know that he/she receives a token and reinforcement for exhibiting a particular behavior. Teaching contingency is a process of first establishing one to one correspondence. In Applied Behavior Analysis, contingency is critical in order to match the reinforce to the behavior. A Token Board becomes a visual schedule for reinforcement. Whether you put a child on an 8 token schedule or a 4 token schedule, you are expecting a child to understand that they will receive access to reinforcement when they fill their board. There are ways to build toward an eight token board, including starting with a smaller number, or starting with the board partially filled. Still, the likelihood of increasing the behavior, whether it is communication or academic, is to be sure that the child knows that behavior is being reinforced. Addressing Specific Behaviors with a Token Board To start a behavior change program, you need to identify both the behavior you want to change and the behavior that should take its place (replacement behavior.) Once you have identified the replacement behavior, you then need to create a situation where you are reinforcing it quickly using your board. Example Sean sits very poorly at circle time. He gets up frequently and throws himself on the floor if he doesnt get access to a preferred toy, Thomas the Tank Engine. The classroom has a set of cube chairs that are used for circle time. The teacher has determined that the replacement behavior is: John will stay seated in his cube during group with both feet on the floor, participating appropriately in group activities (singing, take a turn, listening quietly.) The Stimulus-Response will be Sitting, please. The naming phrase will be Good sitting, Sean. A classroom aide sits behind Sean in group: when he sits for approximately a minute quietly a token is placed on his chart. When he gets five tokens, he has access to his preferred toy for 2 minutes. When the timer goes off, Sean is returned to the group with Sitting, please! After several successful days, the reinforcement period is expanded to about two minutes, with three-minute access to the reinforcer. Over a couple weeks, this could be expanded to sitting for the entire group (20 minutes) with a 15-minute free place break. Targeting specific behaviors in this way can be extraordinarily effective. The example above is based on a real child with real behavior issues, and it took only a couple of weeks to effect the desired result. Cost Response: Taking a token off the board once it is earned is known as cost response. Some districts or schools may not permit response cost, in part because non-professional or support staff may use it as a punishment, and the motivation may be revenge rather than behavior management. Sometimes taking away a reinforce after it has been earned will generate some pretty unmanageable or even dangerous behavior. Sometimes support staff will use response cost just to get the student to flip out so they can be removed from the classroom and placed in an alternate safe setting (this used to be called isolation.) Token Boards for Classroom Management A token board is one of several different  visual schedules you can use to support classroom management. If you have a reinforcement schedule based on the board, you can specify either a token for each completed tasks or a combination of appropriate participation and work completion. If you give a token for each completed worksheet, you may find that your students choose only the easy ones, so you may want to offer two tokens for a particularly difficult activity. A Reinforcement Menu A menu of reinforcement choices is helpful, so your students know they have a range of choices that are acceptable. You may create a choice chart for each individual child, or permit them to choose from a larger chart. You will also find that different students have different preferences. When you create a students choice chart, it is worthwhile to take the time to do a reinforcement evaluation, especially for students with very low function.

The Parking Lot Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Parking Lot - Essay Example This issue should be urgently addressed to address the disorganization and disturbance that it causes in the campus. This is an informational analysis. The authority responsible for this issue is the security department at the campus because they are mandated to handle issues of car parking and issues of disorganization and confusion created. As such, this complaint is directed to the head of the security department at the campus. The lack of ample parking space is a problem in different areas (Arbatskaya, Mukhopadhaya and Rasmusen 4). In campus, it has been an ongoing issue for a long time and has created a nuisance. The numbers of students increase in the campus every year meaning that the numbers of cars, motorcycles and bicycles also increase. Despite the increase, the parking spaces are left unmanaged and the people who own cars, motorcycles and bicycles are left struggling on where to park and as a result of this decide to park anywhere they want. This issue has brought about several unpleasant experiences. First, there have been accidents involving cars, motorcycles and bicycles. Because people decide to park their cars, motorcycles and bicycles anywhere and anyhow they want, it becomes difficult for them to move from places where they have parked, for instance when other cars, motorcycles or bicycles have parked behind them or on the sides. There have been several cases where people have complained that those who had parked either side of their cars had hit and damaged their cars or bikes when getting out and ran away without reporting or helping them repair their cars. The security has been unable to solve such issues because of lack of evidence or information to apprehend the culprits in addition to the fact that it would be difficult to solve such issues when no one knows who had parked the right way. Next, students as well as other people have

Journal - Essay Example s not just limited to developed countries who have traditionally been more favorable towards women in careers; typically more male-centric areas of the world like India and China are also showing massive improvements in the way that women are treated in the workplace and their access to jobs and education. However, it must be noted that there are still areas for improvement, despite the fact that the arena has changed so much for the better. Women still do not make as much as men overall (men make $23.4 trillion compared to a female $10.5 trillion) which means that their power and access to some things may be limited. However, it is noted by Foroohar et al (2009) that this may be because it will take a while for the elder women who make less money to retire and allow younger women with higher standards of education and economic prospects to take their place. This is again, proof that women are in a much stronger economic position than they have been previously and that this effect will continue to be seen across the globe. There is also evidence that economic conditions, whilst not necessarily excellent for women in the developing world, will continue to improve as households get more access to technology (like television) and see other countries attitudes towards female economic

East Asian literature Essay Example for Free

East Asian literature Essay Based on Yasutaka Tsutsui’s â€Å"The Standing Woman†, the power of the collective over that of the individual is positive. This can be surmised based on three points of argumentation which are the main character’s thoughts at the beginning of the story, the old man’s revelation in his conversation with the main character, and the main character’s discussion with his wife. At the beginning of the story, we find the main character who is a writer thinking about the story that he finished. He mentions that the story is â€Å"capable of neither harm nor good†. Since he had spoken this to himself then it must be true. Later on it would be revealed in the story that his wife who he loves so much has been turned to a manpillar by the government. Yet instead of being angry and seeking vengeance, the man even at the start of the story already seems defeated by the very society that persecuted his wife. At the middle of the story, the writer converses with an old man who reveals that he had also been a writer but is now too afraid of persecution to write anything at all. The conversation shows that society has also broken the old man without even needing to arrest him and turn him into a mantree. The old man’s fear of getting exposed to the public and being ridiculed had already overpowered him and these fears came from society because it is the collective society that has the greatest power to ridicule. The last proof comes from the writer’s discussion with his wife. His wife who had once been so proud and strong has been reduced to a yielding subject to society’s whims to a point of not even protesting injustices done to her by drunks. In conclusion, the power of a collective society truly does overwhelm the resolve of any particular member.

Movies Influence on a Person’s Life

Movies Influence on a Person’s Life Movies have always been used to instruct and entertain people. Throughout history movies have thought people about war, love, life and death. They have made people happy and sad, angry and remorseful. There is no doubt that movies have had some very important effects on people’s behavior. The movies influences affect in young children as they pass through different levels of growing up, and on people who often watch movies and incorporate them in their own real life activities. The primary reason is that movies have cultural and moral influences on people. For instance, Youngsters love to watch the dancing princesses or the evil ninjas, because of a lack of judgment and knowledge. They will copycat the actions and behaviors in everything whether it is playing, clothes or habits. Children do not have the sense to differentiate fact from vision. They think, what they see is real and can happen to them in the future. Furthermore, horror m ovies created from imaginary stories that show the dark sides of life have the primary aim of scaring and shocking the audience. This can lead to the development of fears and insecurities in the mind of a child. Young children like to use phrases from the movies, and experience the same style of living. Children believe that all those ideas, characterized in movies, are good and correct. Movies include various kinds of contents. In some, for example, scenes involving murders are broadcast, in which a person is killing or being killed by someone. This event in fiction may cause a person to justify bloodshed or murder psychologically. In addition, movies also persuade people to think about themselves, people imagine being placed in a movie instead of the original character. This thought can change a person’s behavior in the real life. It is not strange when a writer gives a solution for a problem in the movie; but people may think that this is the only option for facing the same issue in real life, which is not true. Violence and the use of drugs in the movies often put people in an uncomfortable situation, because people might have had personal experience with drugs or other illegal substances. These types of movies have a very bad impact on people. Instead individuals should watch movies where a person can learn something and through that can bring positive behavior in life. Also movies, in which drinking alcohol is illustrated in a positive way, can play a significant role in a person’s decision to begin drinking at an early age. Research proves that drinking alcohol before the age of 16 is a risk factoring which can prevent development later in life.Movies are tools to help people who want to develop culturally, in broader word, Movies have the power to educate people. Like books movies can teach ethics, make a person grateful, and show the different sides of human nature, in addition, to entertaining and keeping a person happy. Instructive movies are more effective for young children, as once they see it, children will never forget it. What a person can do is to propose the movies which he thinks are able to show the accurate conception.Violence shown through movies affects society and may cause criminal activity. Certain movies should be denied the right to be released on the market. A person needs to know that in everything there has to be control and an equal balance. Teachers should also encourage children to take up reading as a hobby or to watch knowledge related movies. Children should be allowed to watch only movies from which they can learn. People shouldn’t watch movies which bring negative thoughts into their personal lives.

Case 3.1 Hy Dairies - 1695 Words

Case Study 3.1 HY DAIRIES, INC. Discussion Questions: 1. Apply your knowledge of stereotyping and social identity theory to explain what went wrong here. The case covers issues of how perceptions affect individual decision-making process. As an introduction, Syd Gilman, the vice marketing president at Hy Dairies perceived Rochelle Beauport as a potential marketing staff responsible to improve the sagging sales of Hy’s gourmet ice cream brand, thus decided to reward her with a new post of a marketing research coordinator that was taken by him as a valuable post in marketimg field. Rochelle Beauport, unfortunately had a different perceptions and expectations that leading her into a difficult decision making situation of whether to†¦show more content†¦In the second stage, social identification, we adopt the identity of the group we have categorised ourselves as belonging to. If for example you have categorised yourself as a student, the chances are you will adopt the identity of a student and begin to act in the ways you believe students act (and conform to the norms of the group). There will be an emotional signific ance to your identification with a group, and your self-esteem will become bound up with group membership. Again, Gilman had identified himself and Beauport as Hy Dairies’ member that was not true for Beauport who was very new and in different job hierarchy unlike Gilman. Thus, she did not identify herself with Hy dairies and Gilman. The final stage is social comparison. Once we have categorised ourselves as part of a group and have identified with that group we then tend to compare that group with other groups. If our self-esteem is to be maintained our group needs to compare favourably with other groups. This is critical to understanding prejudice, because once two groups identify themselves as rivals they are forced to compete in order for the members to maintain their self-esteem. Competition and hostility between groups is thus not only a matter of competing for resources (like in Sherif’s Robbers Cave) like jobs but also the result of competing identities.
